At Qiantan Park in Shanghai, a celebration created a vibrant connection between the world of gaming, player culture, and real-world spaces. Iconic elements from League of Legends—including a giant Dr. Mundo, Heartsteel-themed interactive installations, a parade of League champions in cosplay, the illuminated Teemo and mushrooms, the Lucky Gate prize draw, the Coffee Cuties Lounge, a bustling fan-made merchandise market, and the 15th Anniversary timeline walk—were brought into a physical urban environment for players to experience in person.

Among them, a giant Dr. Mundo inflatable became one of the event's most visually striking landmarks.

Measuring 8.31 meters in length, 9.25 meters in width, and 7 meters in height, the installation transformed a familiar game character into a monumental physical presence.

This was more than a large inflatable display.

It was a physical expression of the League of Legends 15th Anniversary IP and another example of the long-term, in-depth collaboration between 360 Inflatable and Riot Games.

What Does “150,000 Stacks of Steel” Mean?

For audiences unfamiliar with League of Legends, “150,000 Stacks of Steel” may sound like an ordinary internet meme or slogan.

It is actually a specific reference rooted in League of Legends player culture.

The phrase comes from the game's Heartsteel mechanic and the exaggerated gameplay scenarios players can create with Dr. Mundo in certain game modes and entertainment-focused gameplay. By repeatedly accumulating Heartsteel stacks through in-game mechanics, items, or runes, players can push the stack count to absurd levels. In the player community, numbers such as 150,000 stacks became an exaggerated and humorous representation of that extreme gameplay experience.

That is why “150,000 Stacks of Steel” became such a fitting concept for the giant Dr. Mundo at the 15th Anniversary celebration.

It was not simply about making a character look enormous. It was about taking a familiar joke and piece of player culture from the game and amplifying it into a full-scale physical installation.

When a Dr. Mundo who keeps stacking Heartsteel in the game is transformed into a 7-meter-tall custom inflatable mascot, a piece of gaming culture suddenly takes on a physical scale that players can step into and experience.

From a Wheelchair Concept to a Custom Executive Chair Structure

For a large-scale inflatable display, the greatest challenge is never simply making the character look accurate.

When an inflatable reaches a scale of 8.31 × 9.25 × 7 meters, structural performance becomes just as important as visual accuracy. The support beneath the character, load distribution, overall stability, and the ability to maintain its shape during an outdoor event all directly affect the final presentation.

The initial concept proposed by the client used a wheelchair as the prototype for Dr. Mundo's seat.

Although the wheelchair concept was visually relevant to the character, our engineering assessment identified a practical issue once the structure was scaled up for a giant outdoor inflatable.

The wheelchair-based structure did not provide sufficient support at the bottom of the inflatable.

As a result, the structure could have experienced uneven load distribution and insufficient support, causing the lower section to deform or the overall character to lose its intended shape.

To address this challenge, 360 Inflatable optimized the concept from the perspectives of structural design, load distribution, and visual proportion.

We replaced the original wheelchair concept with a more structurally suitable executive chair/sofa design.

This was not simply a visual adjustment. It was a structural redesign specifically developed for the requirements of a large-scale inflatable installation.

The revised structure provided a more stable support base and created a stronger connection between Dr. Mundo's seated pose and the chair structure. This allowed the giant character to maintain a fuller and more stable silhouette during outdoor display.

For a large-scale IP inflatable, professional design is not simply about making a character look right.

It is also about making sure the character can stand reliably in the real world.

Nearly 1,000 Fabric Panels Bring the Character to Life

The giant Dr. Mundo inflatable was manufactured from nearly 1,000 individual fabric panels.

At this scale and level of complexity, every panel contributes not only to the overall dimensions and structural integrity of the inflatable, but also to the character's silhouette, proportions, and visual accuracy.

The main body of the Dr. Mundo character was constructed using sewn fabric panel connections, combined with airtight sealing treatment to provide both structural integrity and reliable inflation performance.

To reproduce the IP artwork and visual details, we used Epson printing and heat-transfer technology to accurately reproduce the character's colors, graphics, and fine visual details.

Certain localized areas, such as the tie clip, required additional three-dimensional shaping.

For these details, foam cotton filling was used to create internal volume and support the shape. This allowed specific elements to retain a more defined three-dimensional appearance rather than relying solely on air pressure to create their form.

The result is a character that not only reproduces the original IP visually, but also retains a stronger sense of depth and dimensionality when viewed at a large physical scale.

200 Meters of Internal LED Lighting Transform Dr. Mundo at Night

During the day, the giant Dr. Mundo attracts attention through its scale and recognizable IP design.

At night, lighting gives the character an entirely different visual identity.

Approximately 200 meters of LED lighting were installed inside the inflatable.

For an installation of this size, the lighting system had to be carefully positioned within the internal structure while maintaining a balance between illumination, light distribution, and the final visual effect.

To achieve more uniform light diffusion, grid fabric was used in selected areas inside the inflatable. This material helps diffuse the internal light and reduce obvious areas of excessive brightness or dark zones, resulting in a more even illuminated appearance across the character.

Before finalizing the lighting system, two different LED lighting solutions were installed inside the inflatable for real-world testing. Photographs of both lighting effects were then provided to the client for comparison and final approval.

After the lighting installation was completed, the seams and edges were further trimmed and finished to ensure a cleaner overall appearance and better integration between the internal lighting system and the inflatable exterior.

From LED selection and internal layout to actual light testing, every step was focused on one objective:

achieving the best possible final effect on site.

A Built-In 1200W Blower Supports the 7-Meter-Tall Structure

As a large-scale outdoor inflatable installation, stable operation is fundamental to the entire project.

The giant Dr. Mundo uses a built-in 1200W blower to provide continuous airflow and maintain its overall form.

For an inflatable measuring more than nine meters across and reaching seven meters in height, blower capacity, internal construction, airtight sealing, and structural support cannot be treated as separate elements.

They work together as an integrated system that determines the stability and appearance of the final installation.

That is why every stage of the project—from structural optimization and nearly 1,000 fabric panels to sealing, internal lighting, and three-dimensional detailing—was developed around the same objective:

not simply to manufacture a giant inflatable, but to create one capable of delivering a stable and complete visual presentation in an outdoor event environment.
