Deep Collaboration: Bringing a Classic IP to Life in a New Way

Under the summer sun, a joyful encounter between children and adults unfolded at Shenzhen Qianhai K11.

Crayon Shin-chan is a beloved classic IP enjoyed by audiences around the world, with the IP rights owned by Futabasha in Japan.

For a highly recognizable classic IP, every commercial presentation involves far more than simply reproducing the character. It requires strict adherence to the character's visual identity, brand value, and established visual standards.

For this Crayon Shin-chan IP project, the collaboration was supported by a comprehensive system covering IP authorization, visual approval, character adaptation, and production quality control.

As the exclusive inflatable partner of the project, Wenzhou 360 Inflatable established a long-term and highly coordinated working relationship with its partners.

The collaboration covered every critical stage of the project:

  • Transforming the original IP character into a large-scale inflatable structure
  • Structural design and engineering development
  • Accurate reproduction of graphic and visual details
  • Manufacturing process and quality control
  • Final installation and on-site presentation

Throughout the entire process, both sides worked closely around the IP's visual standards and the practical requirements of the commercial environment.

The significance of this deep collaboration goes beyond manufacturing a large inflatable.

Wenzhou 360 Inflatable played an important role in transforming the creative concept of the IP into a tangible, real-world commercial experience.

When a classic IP character standing 8 meters tall enters a commercial space, the result is far more than simply making the character "bigger."

The oversized swimming ring, Shin-chan's instantly recognizable facial expression, and playful overall composition transformed the character into one of the most distinctive visual focal points of the summer campaign at Shenzhen Qianhai K11.

From a distance, the giant Shin-chan immediately captures attention.

As visitors move closer, the detailed IP elements encourage them to stop, take photos, interact with the installation, and share the experience.

For children, the giant character becomes a surprising and exciting cartoon companion.

For adults, Shin-chan evokes familiar childhood memories and emotional nostalgia.

As a result, the giant inflatable became more than just a component of the summer-themed commercial display. It became an emotional connection between consumers of different generations.

A Summer-Limited Experience: Turning a Commercial Space into a Destination for All Ages

During the summer holiday season, one of the key challenges facing commercial spaces is:

How can a destination attract children, young consumers, and families at the same time?

Traditional promotional campaigns alone are increasingly insufficient to meet consumers' expectations for offline experiences.

Today's consumers are looking for spaces that are worth making a special trip for, worth photographing, worth sharing, and worth experiencing together with family and friends.

The summer campaign at Shenzhen Qianhai K11 responded directly to this demand by introducing the giant Crayon Shin-chan inflatable with a swimming-ring theme.

The combination of the swimming ring, summer atmosphere, seaside-inspired visual elements, and a beloved classic IP gave the entire installation a strong seasonal identity.

For families, children could experience the excitement of being close to a giant cartoon character.

For younger consumers, the combination of a nostalgic IP and a contemporary commercial environment created highly shareable social-media content.

For adults, Crayon Shin-chan brought back childhood memories and emotional connections.

One giant IP installation connected children's curiosity, young people's desire to share, and adults' nostalgia — all within one space.

This gave Shenzhen Qianhai K11 a distinctive summer identity:

It was no longer simply a shopping destination, but a place where adults and children could play, interact, take photos, and create shared summer memories.

The Client's Challenge Was More Than “Making a Giant Inflatable”

A large-scale IP inflatable display may appear straightforward at first glance, but its true challenges often lie in the details.

For the Shenzhen Qianhai K11 project, the client's objective was not simply to manufacture a giant cartoon installation.

Instead, the project needed to achieve several core goals.

01. Maximum Visual Impact

In an open commercial environment, a large-scale IP installation must deliver sufficient visual impact to attract attention from a distance.

02. High-Fidelity IP Reproduction

As a classic and highly recognizable IP, Crayon Shin-chan requires precise proportions and accurate reproduction of its key visual elements. Even small deviations can affect the overall appearance of the character.

03. Reliable Outdoor Display Performance

The large inflatable needed to maintain a stable, full, and visually consistent appearance within a real-world commercial environment.

04. Genuine Interaction Value

A successful commercial installation should not simply "stand there."

It should encourage consumers to approach, take photos, interact with the installation, and share their experience.

To meet these requirements, Wenzhou 360 Inflatable developed an integrated solution covering structural design, materials, manufacturing techniques, graphic reproduction, and overall visual presentation.

Challenge 01: How Do You Scale an IP Character to 8 Meters Without Losing Its Identity?

For a large-scale inflatable, size creates the initial visual impact — but the details determine the actual visitor experience.

This is particularly important for an iconic character such as Crayon Shin-chan.

His facial expression, clothing details, and graphics on the swimming ring are all essential elements of his visual identity.

For detailed graphic areas, we used an Epson printing system combined with heat-transfer technology.

This professional graphic-production process enabled us to reproduce key visual elements of the IP with greater clarity and precision.

The heat-transfer process also provides strong performance in areas such as:

  • Scratch resistance
  • Color reproduction
  • Durability
  • Resistance to fading

From a distance, visitors see a giant Shin-chan.

Up close, they discover the carefully reproduced visual details of the original IP.

That transition from long-distance impact to close-up detail is what allows a large commercial installation to remain visually convincing at every viewing distance.

For large-scale IP inflatables, the bigger the character becomes, the more technically demanding the manufacturing process becomes.

When an ordinary character design is enlarged to 8 meters in height, the proportional relationships between the head, body, limbs, clothing, and graphic elements can easily become distorted.

If these relationships are not carefully managed, the overall character may lose its balance and recognizable appearance.

To address this challenge, Wenzhou 360 Inflatable converted the original IP design into a three-dimensional inflatable structure based on the engineering characteristics of large-scale inflatables.

The main body of the character was manufactured using professional sewing and fabric-panel assembly techniques.

Through carefully engineered panel structures and precise joining methods, we created a stable three-dimensional silhouette.

Key areas were also treated with professional airtight sealing techniques to ensure that the inflatable maintained its overall shape under continuous inflation.

The final result allowed Crayon Shin-chan to retain his distinctive character features and visual identity even after being enlarged several times beyond his original scale.

Making an IP bigger is not simply about increasing its dimensions. True craftsmanship means ensuring that, even at a much larger scale, the character still feels like the original.

6.webp

Challenge 02: How Can IP Details Withstand Close-Up Viewing?

Although a large inflatable first attracts attention through its scale, the details ultimately determine the visitor's perception of quality.

For an iconic IP like Crayon Shin-chan, facial expressions, clothing elements, and the graphics on the swimming ring are all critical components of character recognition.

For these detailed areas, we adopted an Epson printing system with heat-transfer technology to reproduce important visual elements with greater clarity and accuracy.

The process offers strong performance in:

  • Scratch resistance
  • Color expression
  • Durability
  • Resistance to fading

This ensures that the installation remains visually convincing not only from a distance, but also when viewed and photographed at close range.

The giant Shin-chan captures attention from afar; the carefully reproduced details keep that attention up close.

That is an important distinction between simply enlarging an IP character and professionally transforming it into a large-scale commercial installation.

Challenge 03: How Can a Large Outdoor Inflatable Balance Visual Appeal and Stable Operation?

For a permanent inflatable display, reliable operation is fundamental to the quality of the installation.

The main structure of this project was manufactured using 600D high-strength flame-retardant Oxford fabric.

A built-in 1,200 W blower continuously supplied air to the inflatable structure, allowing the installation to maintain a full and stable appearance throughout its operation.

From material selection and structural fabrication to continuous air supply, Wenzhou 360 Inflatable transformed the large-scale IP inflatable from a simple "creative product" into a professional commercial display installation capable of practical real-world application.

A Fun Installation Story: Shin-chan “Wakes Up”

The installation of a large inflatable always creates memorable moments.

During transportation, the nearly 8-meter-tall Shin-chan was surprisingly compact compared with his final form.

After professional folding and packaging, the giant character waited to "wake up" at Shenzhen Qianhai K11.

On installation day, the team unfolded the main structure according to the established installation process and carefully inspected the various connection points before gradually activating the internal blower.

As the 1,200 W blower began operating, the material that had been spread across the ground slowly started to transform.

First, Shin-chan's body began to inflate.

Then the enormous swimming ring gradually became full and rounded.

Finally, the contours of his face, his signature eyebrows, and his familiar expression slowly emerged.

Someone on site joked:

“Shin-chan hasn't woken up yet. Give him a little more time.”

As more air entered the structure, the complete giant Crayon Shin-chan finally "sat up."

From a flat collection of fabric panels on the ground to an 8-meter-tall IP installation, the process felt almost like watching a cartoon character step out of a two-dimensional world and enter reality.

When Shin-chan was finally fully inflated inside the commercial space at Shenzhen Qianhai K11, the atmosphere of the entire area changed.

What had once been an ordinary open space instantly became a vibrant summer destination filled with a distinctive IP presence and playful energy.

From Installation to Summer Check-In Destination

A truly successful commercial installation does not end when installation is complete.

In fact, installation is where the consumer experience begins.

The giant Crayon Shin-chan with his oversized swimming ring created an unmistakable visual focal point.

Children became excited by the giant cartoon character.

Parents were happy to stop and capture memorable moments with their children.

Young consumers photographed and filmed the installation as part of their summer social-media experience.

Gradually, the large inflatable fulfilled its true commercial purpose.

It transformed from a product into a scene.

From a scene into an interaction.

And from an interaction into a memorable consumer experience.

That summer, the giant Crayon Shin-chan at Shenzhen Qianhai K11 became more than a "big friend" for children.

It also became a joyful symbol of childhood memories for adults.

People of different generations were connected by the same beloved IP in the same summer environment.

This is where the real value of IP-driven commercial displays lies.
